Translating "中極", acupuncture point REN-3

Explanation of the point name

The name of this point can be translated in several ways.

Others have often translated it according to the fact that this point is located vertically, as well as horizontally, in the (front) center of the body. Thus, a translation like "Ultimate Center" or "Utmost Middle" makes sense.

However, is this point really the "ultimate" center of the body, or a person? The relative length of a person's legs vary. Some people have long legs, others short legs. So this point will not always be located at the exact middle point of the body. At the front, that is, while the real center is somewhere inside the body.

The effect of this point is to enhance physical balance. That's not really something ultimate. So, the name "Ultimate Center" referring to the effect of this point doesn't make sense either.

However, that function of enhancing balance can be seen as the intended meaning of the name. 中 often means something like "center" or "middle," but it can also mean "balance" or "balancing." The name "Balanced Fully" thus makes sense.
